अकबर इलाहाबादी का जन्म १६ नवम्बर सन् १८४६ इलाहाबाद (उत्तर प्रदेश) में हुआ था!इनका असली नाम सैयद हुसैन था!अकबर इलाहाबादी रूढ़िवादिता एवं धार्मिक ढोंग के सख्त विरोधी थे. ये अपने शेरों शायरी में रूढ़िवादिता एवं धार्मिक ढोंग पर तीखा व्यंग करते थे.अकबर इलाहाबादी अदालत में एक छोटे मुलाजिम थे,बाद में इन्होने कानून का अच्छा ज्ञान प्राप्त किया और सेसन जज के रूप में रिटायर हुए.गांधी जी के नेतृत्त्व में छिड़े स्वाधीनता आन्दोलन के भी गवाह रहे.इनकी मृत्यु ९ सितम्बर सन् १९२१ को इलाहाबाद हुयी!
